Summary
- We do not collect personal information. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or address.
- Your study data stays on your device. Quiz progress, streaks, scores, and bookmarks are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's standard local storage (AsyncStorage / UserDefaults). They are not uploaded.
- We measure our advertising. Got Stripes includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK so we can tell which ads bring officers to the app. It reports app events such as installs, app opens, trial starts, and subscriptions. See Advertising and attribution below.
- You control ad tracking. On first launch iOS asks whether to allow tracking. If you say no, we do not collect your advertising identifier and we do not track you across other apps and websites. The app works identically either way.
- For paid subscriptions, we use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user ID and the purchase token from Apple — nothing personally identifying.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect any of the following: your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, postal address, precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera input, health or fitness data, financial information, browsing or search history outside of what you do inside the app, or any data that identifies you personally.
Information stored on your device
The following data is stored locally on your device only and is never sent to us or to any third party:
- Your study progress for each module (best score, attempts answered, accuracy)
- Your daily study streak and last study date
- Bookmarks (definitions and quiz questions you've saved)
- Your quiz answer history (for the most recent attempts)
Subscription and purchase data
If you choose to subscribe or buy a lifetime unlock, the in-app purchase is processed by Apple. Apple charges your Apple ID and tells us only whether the purchase was successful. We use RevenueCat, a subscription-management platform, to verify your purchase status. RevenueCat receives:
- An anonymous app-generated user ID (a random string — not your name or email)
- The Apple-issued purchase token and product identifier
- The purchase date and renewal status
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, payment details, or device identifiers from us. Your payment information stays with Apple. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Advertising and attribution (Meta / Facebook)
We advertise Got Stripes on Meta's platforms (Facebook and Instagram). To understand which ads actually bring officers to the app, Got Stripes includes the Meta SDK. It sends Meta:
- App events: app installs, app opens, free-trial starts, and subscription purchases (including the purchase amount and currency)
- Standard device and app metadata that accompanies those events, such as device model, OS version, and app version
Your advertising identifier (IDFA) is a separate matter, and it is your choice. On first launch, iOS shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt:
- If you allow tracking, we enable Meta's advertiser-ID collection. Meta may use your advertising identifier to link your install to an ad you saw, and to measure ads across other apps and websites.
- If you decline — or if you never answer — we do not enable advertiser-ID collection, and your advertising identifier is not collected. No cross-app or cross-site tracking takes place.
You can change this decision at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Every feature of Got Stripes works exactly the same either way; nothing is gated on your answer.
Meta never receives your name, email, location, contacts, or any of your study data — no quiz answers, scores, streaks, or bookmarks. Read Meta's privacy policy at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Crash reporting
Got Stripes does not currently send crash or error reports to any third party. If we add crash reporting in a future version, we will update this policy and disclose exactly what is collected before that version ships.
Other third-party services
Other than RevenueCat (subscription management) and Meta (advertising attribution, described above), the app uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. No Firebase, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.
If we add anything new in a future version, we will update this policy and disclose what is collected.
Children's privacy
The app is intended for adult learners studying for the New Jersey Sergeant Promotional Examination. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any data from children.
Your choices
- View, change, or delete your data at any time from Settings → Reset Progress.
- Allow or decline ad tracking at any time from iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Declining does not limit any app feature.
- Cancel a subscription by going to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your device.
- Restore a previous purchase from Settings → Restore Purchases in the app.
- Contact us with any privacy question at support@gotstripes.app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective date" at the top, and substantive changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
